Picnic is an excellent example of the successful Avalon 38.  She was built in Australia by Palm Beach Motor Yachts in 2001.  Her designer is Mark Richards, currently CEO of Grand Banks yachts.  A well-known professional maxi yacht captain for many years, Richards was very involved in the design and build of several large Australian racing yachts. He applied his knowledge to the Palm Beach 38.  Today the Palm Beach line consists of motor yachts between 45 and 85 feet, many of them ordered by sailors going to powerboats. A key element of Palm Beach boats is strong lightweight construction with very efficient hull design. This allows for higher speeds and less fuel consumption.

 For 23 years, Picnic’s very experienced owner has enjoyed harbor cruising, day trips along the coast, and many weekends at Catalina. The boat has been exceptionally maintained.  The hull was repainted in 2022, and her exterior and below deck finishes are in beautiful condition.  She has always been well covered at her slip. The boat has recently been fitted with a new bow thruster, inverter, leather upholstery and carpeting.

She is powered by a 440 horsepower six-cylinder Yanmar 6LY2A-STP diesel. Hours are approximately 1,150.  

Picnic is a fast coastal cruiser with a traditional look and a well-crafted teak interior.  Her large aft deck is much more open than other yachts of her type, allowing for fishing along with flexible seating & table options for entertaining. Her design and build was influenced by the ruggedness of the Australian coast.  This makes her very suitable for crossing the Catalina channel and for trips up and down the coast. This boat is admired wherever she goes.
